The 2011 CAA Men’s Basketball Championship will certainly be one to remember. Not only did Madison+Main’s marketing efforts help the CAA set attendance records over the course of the four-day championship, but for the first time ever, three CAA schools made the cut for this year’s March Madness. ODU won the Championship, cutting down the nets on Monday night, March 7th, while George Mason University and our beloved Virginia Commonwealth University received at-large bids to the NCAA tournament.
And in case you’ve been living under a rock for the past few weeks, you’re well aware that the VCU Rams are on their way to Houston to play in this weekend’s Final Four. This will be the second time in NCAA history that a CAA team has made it to the Final Four ─ the first being George Mason’s awesome run in 2006.
This year, the Ram’s record is one for the ages, beating teams from the Pac-10, Big East, Big Ten, ACC and even the No.1-seed from the Big 12, Kansas, to make it to the Final Four. If the Rams continue their winning ways against the No. 8-seed Butler, VCU would make it to the finals, being the first CAA team to play in the National Championship.
With five VCU alums and an adjunct VCU professor working at Madison+Main, we couldn’t be more excited. Even die-hard JMU Dukes fan, Mr. Will Trible, is feeling love for the RamNation. And who in Richmond couldn’t be more thrilled to have the CAA represented in this year’s tournament? Here’s hoping the Rams continue one of the greatest runs in NCAA history!
