I Didn’t Know What to Say

First off I’d like to say “thank you.” Thank you for the huge outpouring of love and support our family has received since we received the news my son Jack passed away. The scholarship fund has swelled to over 28,000 online with an additional 5,000 in checks so far. We continue to honor “the boy” with this legacy.
These past 13 days have been almost unbearable. I say almost, because we got through it, with your kind words and prayers. And food. I think I gained 10 pounds eating all the food.
I’ve gotten calls, emails, texts, facebook messages, letters, cards (everything except a carrier pigeon) with words of comfort and support. When I got a hug and someone said “I’m so sorry” or “my condolences” or “how are you holding up?,” I didn’t know what to say. I still don’t. The words fail me. That’s a big problem for me, because words are how I make my living.
I’m sorting through a big stack of cards. I’m writing down the names of over 700 people who signed the guest books at the visitation and memorial service. I’m trying to collect all the names of folks who donated to the fund.
I tried to start writing them all notes, but the words failed me. I’ll try again Monday. If you get one, and it only says “thank you,” then that’s all I could muster.
I still don’t know what to say when you tell me that you’re sorry or what a great kid my son was. I hope you’ll accept a BIG “thank you” and know that it is sincere.
THANK YOU from the bottom, top and whole of my heart.
Also, a big thank you to the Madison+Main-iacs. I was totally useless this week, but they got it done…for me and our clients.
MONDAY:
QUACK BACK AT CANCER
This week, we met with our partners at Aflac to talk about extended cancer coverage that can help folks stay on their feet after a life-changing diagnosis. We’re bragging here, but after his own health battles prior, the Boss Man Dave made sure this was available to all the Madison+Main-iacs, highlighting our company commitment to making people the priority.
TUESDAY:
GO BIG AND GIVE BIG
Vice President Leanne Pillow took time Tuesday for a little do-gooding close to home! Together with members of our team, she headed to assist the amazing food bank efforts at her home fellowship Discovery United Methodist Church with her husband, Rev. Pat. Their efficient system feeds hundreds of folks in the community, one human at a time.
Taking care of our community is a focus for Madison+Main, so we also hosted our own little food bank for donation this month to help out a local charity.
WEDNESDAY:
CELEBRATING OUR CARISSA
This week we got to celebrate beautiful and colorful creative director, Carissa! Serving bold ideas (and iconic looks), she also has one of the biggest hearts at M+M and always makes sure our team is taken care of. Hope this lap around the sun is the best one yet, (and that y’all enjoy this throwback!)

THURSDAY:
MY ROUNDTABLE
I felt the love this week as I met with my VACEOs Roundtable at M+M Worldwide HQ on Thursday afternoon. It was good to see my fellow friends and CEOs. We had a good meeting and shared some good memories. Just what the doctor ordered.
The sandwiches from Mosaic were very, very good. Never had them before, but I recommended them.
FRIDAY:
DAVE ON THE (AIR)WAVES
It was good to be back on the airwaves Friday morning, chatting with Scott Lee on Richmond’s Morning News. Scott did a great job sitting in for Rich Herrera this week. Rich, that lucky ducky, was travelling around Italy and Sicily with Colette Tours and WRVA listeners. Back in the good ‘ol RVA, we have a big list of fun stuff to see and do this weekend. ICYMI, here’s the link.
Ten minutes after the call-in to WRVA, Melissa and I jumped on a jet bound for New York City. We’re going to see everything in the city, eat everything in Manhattan and then buy everything on 5th Avenue. #RetailTherapy
