Being Intentional

I stumbled upon the late great Dr. Wayne Dwyer years ago while channel surfing. The motivational speaker and self-help guru was thoroughly fascinating. The author of 40 books and frequent TV talk show guest, Dr. Dyer had a very intentional way about his thinking, connection to the audience and presentation style.
In fact, his book “The Power of Intention“, had a very profound effect on me and my way of doing business. I read it shortly after opening Madison+Main in 2005. As a result, our company values are also Intentional:
- We value fearless creativity.
- We value clear communication.
- We value an intentional approach.
- We value respectful candor.
- We value unwavering transparency.
- We value being social & socially conscious.
- We value savoring success.
Over the last 20 years, I have tried to remember the lessons of that book. I have achieved some of the goals, but failed at others. In researching a quote last week, I stumbled across a few by Dr. Dyer. Although he passed in 2015, his words are still relevant and a good reminder of how all of us can be more intentional in our lives and in our work.
I highly recommend his book, but to save you some time — and a few bucks on Amazon — I’ve listed some of the most important rules of the book:
- Stop being offended.
- Let go of your need to win.
- Let go of your need to be right.
- Let go of your need to be superior.
- Let go of your need to have more.
- Let go of identifying yourself on the basis of your achievements.
- Let go of your reputation.
I’m not saying by any means that I’ve accomplished these goals. I have not, but I’m working on them and I’m being Intentional about the process.
I stopped being offended a long time ago, but I still manage to offend people with my jokes. #oops
MONDAY:
Q1 QUALITY TIME
On Monday morning, the team hopped on Zoom to review our goals for this first quarter and set our sights on what we’re going to achieve throughout the rest of 2024. One of the core tenants of Madison+Main is a belief in transparency and collaboration in order to align the team to meet goals. We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished so far – keep an eye out to see what more we’ll be doing in 2024!
TUESDAY:
TEXAS INN TUESDAY
“Just flip the open sign on and see what happens.” Famous last words… before the opening of the Texas Inn RVA! Just the Madison+Main-iacs, including CEO Molly Whitfield who traveled all the way from Texas herself, were set to come in for a team lunch. But I was confident the staff of our new Texas Inn in #RVA could handle their first lunch rush, so we opened the doors to all hungry Richmonders. Yep, we’re open but don’t expect much. Come by and see us at 2901 Park, y’all, and get a Cheesy Western.

WEDNESDAY:

THURSDAY:
GIVING BACK FOR GOOD
During National Volunteer Month, we want to shine the spotlight on some local opportunities to give back with your time – through CARITAS and HARP!

Meanwhile, HARP serves the community by providing education, treatment, and alternatives to those in recovery and battling active addiction. Get involved in rebuilding lives and spreading hope through the gift of volunteering – get started online.
