Finding A New Home
Madison+Main will soon be looking for a new worldwide headquarters, as our iconic building at 101 E. Cary Street has been recently listed for sale by our friends at Sperity Real Estate Ventures.
Twelve years ago, we found ourselves in a precarious position. The landlord at our old offices at 1313 E. Main St. put the building up for sale and was turning the place into condos. Molly Whitfield and I started roaming Richmond to find new offices…fast.
Molly found a striking building at the corner of 1st and Cary, called the Douglas Baird House in Monroe Ward. One problem though: it wasn’t for lease…it was up for sale.
In 2012, coming out of the Great Recession, we were worried a bit about the economy and the future. But we took our own advice and remembered “bold brands win,” so we took a risk and bought the place. Over the last decade, we’ve enjoyed this 6,000-square-foot historic building immensely. We’ve worked in it. We’ve played in it. We’ve opened our doors through the years to friends, family, and clients, and we’ve hosted more events than I can remember. Heck, I even converted the third floor into an apartment so I could live in such a great neighborhood.
But alas, all good things must come to an end. We’re looking for a different space that fits the needs of our hybrid work environment. Most of our employees work primarily from home, so there’s only 2-3 people in the place most days.
So two things I’ll ask of ye. First, if you know a cool workspace in RVA that has an open floor plan let us know. We always appreciate your referrals. Secondly, if you’re looking at getting a beautiful property with a stunning architectural appeal in Richmond, send Nathan Hughes and his team at Sperity a message.
MONDAY:
CELEBRATING IS TWICE AS NICE!
It was a big day this Monday at Madison+Main — it was both our CEO Molly Whitfield’s birthday, and the 6th work-a-versary of our talented Creative Director Carissa Ghaffari. These women make the marketing magic happen, and we love a chance to celebrate them! Send them some well wishes on our social media.
TUESDAY:
A ROUND OF AP-PAWS!
Our client Holiday Barn Pet Resorts got some great PR this week in New York Times Magazine. While visiting a string of Mid-Atlantic pet hotels, travel writer Samuel Robert Apple spent the night in Holiday Barn’s presidential suite alongside his Goldendoodle, Steve. We love seeing our clients get this recognition. Give the full article a read today!
WEDNESDAY:
SENDING A MESSAGE
Communications Director Kent Brockwell and Account Exec Samuel Nfor traveled down to Norfolk on Wednesday to cover a press conference with the Speaker of the House, the Attorney General, and a bunch of police chiefs from all over Virginia at the Slover Library. The Attorney General Jason Miyares provided an update on Ceasefire Virginia, the gun violence reduction program that we’re proud to be partnering on. He thanked the General Assembly for supporting it, reinforced our message to repeat offenders that “Gun Crime Means More Time”.
THURSDAY:
LUNCH AND LEARN
Members of our creative and accounts team gathered in the office this week to meet with our partners at MNI for a delicious lunch they provided. While we ate, they talked to us about the amazing work they do — their talented team collects and masterfully wields data to help companies like ours tailor our marketing campaigns to the people they are meant to reach. We’ve been proud to work with MNI many times in the past, as well as on our current Ceasefire Virginia campaign with Virginia’s Office of the Attorney General.
FRIDAY:
PERFECTLY PATRICK
We celebrated brilliant creative consultant Patrick Simkins a little early, as his birthday approaches on Saturday! Patrick makes every meeting funnier, more bold, and brilliant — and we love getting to hear all the fun stories about Theo (also pictured!). Check out his website to see his impressive portfolio of work.
