The Last Frontier

If you had to pick a place to pack up and visit, where would you go? I’d imagine somewhere sunny rather than snowy for the summer — unless you’re Dave Saunders. This week, the Big Boss Man swapped out The Tug Life for a much bigger boat. He made his way to Seattle before climbing aboard a cruise ship for a week-long excursion. To where you may ask? None other than our country’s 49th state — Alaska. However, before leaving for The Last Frontier, he bestowed this edition of the Weekly Report upon me, Junior Copywriter Caitlin Sherman. Why? Just for the halibut.
So what could Dave be up to on his vacation? My guess is as good as yours. But if I had to assume, here’s a couple of things I thought of.
- Exploring the great outdoors. Alaska is home to bear-infested wilderness — right up Dave’s alley! There’s a good chance he’s either exploring Mendenhall Glacier, watching whales in the Inside Passage, or getting way too close to a moose despite being warned about not doing so several times.
- Enjoying the local cuisine. There’s only so many MREs one can eat before saying, “It’s time to try something new.” With an abundance of wild salmon and Alaskan King Crab, I’m sure Dave is in 7th heaven. But I bet he tries reindeer sausage or smoked octopus before he returns… #Yum
- Joining the Deadliest Catch crew as they film the next season. When the water calls, Dave answers. If this is the case, let’s hope he brings back some crab legs for the rest of us.
While these ideas may seem a little out there, there’s still a chance Dave could be doing at least one of them. (Looking at you, No. 2.) Juneau what I mean? Okay, I’m done with the Alaska puns. Just had to get my “Bering(s) Strait.” If YOU went on an Alaskan cruise, what would you do? Send it our way.
MONDAY:
ERIN’S FIVE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY
On Sunday, the team celebrated Senior Graphic Designer Erin Rebmann’s five-year anniversary with Madison+Main. You may not know this, but Erin’s technically been with us for six years if you include her arduous internship. Whether you say five or six, we’re grateful for her dedication to designing great work. Thank you, Erin, for years of tasty baked treats, witty remarks, and everything you’ve done for us and our clients.

TUESDAY:
ROCHELLE’S FIRST ANNIVERSARY
On Tuesday, the team recognized another one of our Madison+Main-iacs on her first anniversary with us. Account Executive Rochelle Sommer joined us last year and has overseen many projects since. Is it a coincidence that Rochelle “Sommer” was brought on during summer? Feels more like fate to me. We’re happy to have you on our team, Rochelle. Keep up the great work!

WEDNESDAY:
LET’S GO VCU!
On Wednesday, a handful of Main-iacs joined one of our newest clients VCU Alumni for a CORE facilitation. This four-hour collaboration led our teams to discover what is at the core of their brand and who their core audiences are. They got straight to business — throwing out ideas and strategizing for upcoming projects. Not to keep ram-bling, but we’re really excited if you couldn’t tell. #GoRams
THURSDAY:
THE M+M COMMS TEAM GOES CLUBBING
Our Comms team left the office early to use the Above & Beyond awards they earned earlier this year to play — and drink — at Topgolf. The outing was no “swing and a miss,” although the rest of the team missed them while they were away. Shoutout to Communications Specialist Kennedy Heidel for crushing everyone in the final game with a score that was far too big to remember. Way to drive home that win, Kennedy!

FRIDAY:
THE FOURTH FESTIVITIES
Independence Day is right around the corner and so are many historical hubs to visit in Virginia! Take a trip to the Historic Triangle — home to Colonial Williamsburg, Historic Jamestowne, and a few of our clients. Heading down to Hampton Roads to catch a fireworks show by the water? Stop by our client Fort Monroe, a.k.a. “Freedom’s Fortress,” to learn new perspective about what we’re all celebrating this weekend. Map out your eastbound patriotic plans with this helpful guide from our friends at Virginia Tourism Corporation.
