‘Twas the Month Before New Years

‘Twas the month before New Years, and all through the house,
our Main-iacs were stirring, all clicking the mouse.
The New Year will be here in 21 days, so here’s a list of 21 ways –
To help your company get better with more sales,
if you listen to this Jolly ol’ guy who tells marketing tales.
If you want to make the New Year better than 2021,
then check out our list and let’s have some fun!
- Improve your Google listing (make sure basic info like your address, phone number, and hours of operation are correct).
- Email your webmaster (make sure all the software updates to your website were made this year).
- Update your Facebook page (change your cover photo and update basic information).
- Check your email system (add email forwarding to anyone who may have left your company in 2021).
- Revise your Twitter bio (and use the full 160 characters and link it to your website).
- Update your personal LinkedIn account (add awards you received or projects you’ve completed).
- Refresh your company’s LinkedIn profile (read above).
- Contact your web administrator and make sure your domain will not expire in 2022.
- Read and respond to your online reviews (Google, Yelp, Facebook, etc.)
- Send your best clients a Christmas gift (it’s not too late and please please please don’t send peanuts).
- Declutter (take down expired posters, outdated signage, and throw away old sales and marketing collateral).
- Review online subscriptions (you might be shocked to learn that you’re paying $5.99 a month for a subscription to Pot Roast Today magazine).
- Spend your credits (you may have leftover ad credits or unused co-op dollars for marketing that expire December 31).
- Make some phone calls (pick half a dozen customers or clients you haven’t heard from in the last year and wish them happy holidays).
- Google yourself (you may be surprised to see what has been written about you or you may be disappointed that you’re not on the first page).
- Research the competition (as things slow down at the end of the year, take a couple of hours and look at what your competition is doing online).
- Look at your sign (not your zodiac, but the sign in front of or on your business to see if it’s faded or all the light bulbs work).
- Make your plan (the time to make a 2022 marketing plan is in 2021, not June of next year).
- Make a list and check it twice (put all the marketing tactics that worked on the left, and all the ones that didn’t work on the right — then tear the page in half).
- Recruit new talent in December (most businesses wait until January or February to start the process).
- Be merry (tell customers Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, or Happy Groundhog Day next February on your social media — never pass up an opportunity to celebrate).
MONDAY:
GIVING BACK
On Monday, Account Supervisor Allison Nida spent the day at Housing Families First volunteering! As part of the employee benefits package, we give our team members PCTO – Paid Community Time Off. We let folks take up to two working days per year to give back to our community, without costing them dollars or PTO. Looking to volunteer this year? Our clients Housing Families First and The Doorways are always looking for some elves to fill their workshops. #ItsChristmasPeopleSoGiveBack

TUESDAY:
FREDERICKSBURG OR BUST!
On Tuesday, Sr. Copywriter Derek Fair, Communications Specialist Kennedy Heidel, and Account Supervisor Allison Nida all traveled north to Fredericksburg for a visit and tour of A. Smith Bowman’s award-winning Distillery. The team had a great time (and picked up a few holiday presents for friends and family.) #AllIWantForChristmasIsBourbon

WEDNESDAY:
MAOLA MILK SHOOT
The entire team spent our Monday Production meeting “oohing” and “awing” over photos from last week’s photoshoot for our client Maola Milk. Account Executive Rochell Sommer and Creative Director Art Webb were in the tiny metropolis of Mercersburg, Pennsylvania shooting some adorable cow and calf footage for upcoming ads. Great work team…and thanks for not bringing one of the cows home as an office pet. #WeAlreadyHaveFishToFeed

THURSDAY:
HOLIDAY PARTY
On Thursday, I flew back from sunny Florida to bone-chilling Virginia to see my entire team! The Madison+Main-iacs, together with plus-ones, got together IN PERSON for our annual Holiday Party at the beautiful Tobacco Company Restaurant in Shockoe Slip! We exchanged secret Santa gifts, laughed until our sides hurt, and ate way too much delicious food. It was great to see everyone in their festive finery. #HOHOHO

FRIDAY:
EVERYBODY GETS A DAY OFF!
Today, we let the entire team have a day off so they can recuperate from the holiday party. Everyone on the team has been working extra hard, so we gave them an extra, well-deserved day off. I started Christmas shopping and will fly back down to warmer weather this weekend. I already miss the sun. A few days of 30-degree weather is enough.
