The B Word

Leanne here, back again! We’re considering starting a “Where in the World is…Dave Saunders” segment with all his jetsetting lately but… in the meantime, you get the VP with another Southern-grandma-approved rant, though maybe slightly less comfy than my last one about partnership. It’s about the “B” word, friends… budgets!
Eek, I know, you don’t want to talk about it! I get it! Sharing your marketing budget with a potential partner can feel intimidating. You might think, “Why don’t I just see what they come up with first?” or “I don’t really know my budget yet.”
But here’s the thing: knowing your budget – even just an estimated one – helps us help you. Without it, we’re like a chef cooking without knowing the size of the dinner party or the menu preferences. Are we making a 5-course meal, or are we whipping up an impressive appetizer that has them coming back for more?
Here’s why being upfront about your Marketing budget is actually a game-changer:
- Creative Thinking: Should we dream up something bold and out-of-the-box, or are we acting like a “special ops” team tackling a specific goal?
- Audience Reach: Are we talking to the whole state or just your neighborhood?
- Channels: Should we think big like TV, digital ads, and unique placements, or focus on a single, high-impact tactic?
Having even a budget estimate helps us customize a plan of attack that fits perfectly without wasting time; just smart, targeted recommendations that work for your business and for your CFO.
So, if you’re reaching out to a potential partner (maybe you’ll call me at Madison+Main, 804-521-4141!), don’t be afraid to share what you’re working with. We promise to be a genuine partner, make every dollar count, and deliver something amazing.
MONDAY:
MAINLINE MAKES MOVES
We’re over the moon to say our new custom-built internal software has been a wild success – President Molly Whitfield has been working overtime to customize and troubleshooting a beautiful and functional system for our team! She exemplifies the hard work, creativity, and can-do that’s always at the heart of Madison+Main.
TUESDAY:
GOOD FUR-ENDS
The Madison+Main team was happy to welcome in a long-time client and friend to the office Tuesday – Michael Hughes, owner of Holiday Barn Pet Resorts! We’ve loved making paw-some and award-winning marketing for these folks and their business that’s also a family legacy – so stay tuned to see what new things we’re putting in the works!
WEDNESDAY:
TAKE A TASTY TOUR
The Accounts Team got out of the office on Thursday for a Church Hill Food Tour from Discover Richmond Tours. We love that sometimes we get to be a tourist in our own backyard. Highlights included stops at Second Bottle Wine Shop, Kahlo’s Taqueria and Bar, Sub Rosa Bakery, Liberty Public House, and Proper Pie Co. Even though they had to brave the weather, they left full and happy!

THURSDAY:
POLITICS AND PINTS
VP Leanne Pillow took an outing to a very special celebration – WRVA’s 100th birthday party! The celebration included a special edition of Politics and Pints at the Beacon Theater in Hopewell, featuring former WRVA hosts John Reid and Jimmy Barrett, and special guest, former Virginia Governor Douglas Wilder, for an entertaining evening full of stories and memories to celebrate a century as the voice of Virginia. She also caught up with our friend, Mark Fero, at the event!

FRIDAY:
PLAN FOR PIE
Hope you’re hungry! On Saturday, March 14th, all 4 Texas Inn locations will be selling slices of their delicious pies for only $3.14. When you come in and get a slice, you help us give back to the Richmond, Harrisonburg and Richmond public schools education foundations.
Cap’n Dave is out cruising again but worry not – he’ll be back next week to share the weekend happenings with us on WRVA. In the meantime, be safe and enjoy this (very strange) seasonal weather!
