REJUVENIZE

I like listening to the radio when I’m traveling around the Commonwealth. I’ve tried Spotify and SiriusXM, but rarely use them – even though I pay for both. I don’t really listen to podcasts and I have 16 book credits on Audible, but last “heard” a book in 2023. I listen to local radio. My two favorites are WRVA 96.1 FM and 1140 AM and VPM (Virginia Public Media) 88.9 FM. Having spent so many years in newspapers and PR, I’m a news junkie.
I can listen to the exact same story on Fox News Radio and NPR and get completely opposite perspectives. And different facts. It’s fascinating. You should try it sometime…it’s fun to get out of the Echo Chamber.
The NBA season opened on Tuesday. Most of you didn’t know that, because ratings for the NBA have been slipping…a lot…over the last five years.
On FOX Sports. Stephen A. Smith was jawing about how he doesn’t like LeBron James. I laughed because I don’t know too many people who like Stephen A. Smith. On NPR, Grant Hill gave an answer to the following question from host Michel Martin: “So, you know, NBA TV ratings fell to their lowest level since the 2021 pandemic. Why do you think that is?”
Hill, an NBA on NBC analyst replied “NBC’s new rights deal – I think it has a chance to rejuvenize in terms of how we present the games.”
Did he mean “rejuvenate?” Did he mean to say “rejuvenate and energize” and just shorten it? I’ve never heard that word before. I’m an English major…I rarely hear a word I don’t recognize. The Oxford Dictionary says it’s not a word. My hunch is that it will be. Let’s use it in a sentence.
“I think the only way that the NBA can rejuvenize itself is to play tough, physical defense.”
Crikey. The Oklahoma Thunder beat the Houston Rockets 125-124, at midnight on Tuesday. I didn’t watch it.
Here’s another tip for rejuvenizing the NBA: don’t break the law.
