Cheese Strata

A few years back I wrote an article about Christmas traditions and how different folks around the world celebrate the holidays in different ways. In that article, I shared one of my family’s traditions for more than three generations.
In our family, the Christmas morning tradition is Cheese Strata. You have to make it the night before and you just pop it into the oven while everyone is opening their presents.
So the origin of this distinctly American breakfast casserole dates back to 1902 when an article with the recipe appeared in a must-have domestic book, the Handbook of Household Science.
After I wrote about that many subscribers shared stories of their holiday traditions and I was surprised how many had the same Cheese Strata stories.
Not surprisingly the search term “Cheese Strata Recipe” sees a spike every year on – you guessed it – Christmas Eve. I love data. It fascinates me. Take a look how that term is searched over time by clicking here.
So how does a “cheese strata recipe” relate to marketing? Easy. Here’s a marketing tip: People search Google for things they don’t know at a time when they need the answer. Studying human behavior and using tools like Google Trends can help you maximize your efficiency in pay-per-click campaigns. For example, if you sell eggnog you might want to market it before Christmas. Buying the keyword “eggnog store near me” probably doesn’t work very well around Independence Day. Sounds like a no-brainer, but more than half of companies who advertise on Google Search do not set time or date settings for their products. Wanna learn more? Call me.
And here’s my converted Cheese Strata Recipe, penned by my awesome sister Katherine Saunders-Pemberton.

TUESDAY:
AP CALLING
I got a call on Tuesday from Associated Press (AP) reporter Anne D’ Innocenzio. Anne’s writing an article on hiring and asked me questions about Texas Inn, our hiring needs and outlook on 2025. If I’m lucky she might quote me and I’ll be in a newspaper near you by the end of the day today. Of course, I will have the link and brag on myself in week’s email!
WEDNESDAY:
7 YEARS OF LEANNE
Whatever would we do and wherever would we be if it wasn’t for our Madam VP, Leanne Pillow? Good thing we wouldn’t know! Wednesday, we celebrated seven years of Leanne at Madison+Main. As sweet as pie, Leanne constantly leads by example whether it’s through her knack for business development, giving back to the community, or crushing it in chili cookoffs. We are so lucky to have her and can’t wait to celebrate even more milestones. Congrats, Leanne!
In other news HR and Operations Manager Mollie Banks and I fixed the flusher on the toilet at the office….WITHOUT the assistance of a plumber. #DIYPlumbing

THURSDAY:
EAT, DRINK, AND BE BRAMBLY
Ain’t no party like an M+M party, because an M+M party includes an open bar and a party bus! The whole crew met up at Brambly Park for grub and cocktails and a surprise gift exchange. Then we all boarded a charter bus and cruised through RVA to see the Official Tacky Lights Tour. Happy holidays from the Madison+Main-iacs. We hope you and your loved ones have a lovely holiday season.
FRIDAY:
BRING IN THE CHEER
Even though I gave everyone on the team an extra day off, I was still up early and working. Because I’m the Boss. I joined John Reid on WRVA’s Richmond Morning News to give him a rundown of events in RVA today, Saturday and Sunday. Don’t forget the Grand Illumination is Friday night at Kanahwa Plaza, the Richmond Christmas Parade is Saturday at 10 am and I’ll be volunteering for Mechanicsville Rotary at the Mechanicsville Christmas Parade on Sunday. Check out John’s show here for the complete list.
