Smooth Sailing: Why You Want Gen Z on Your Crew

Dave is once again hitting the waves – or maybe they’re hitting him, it’s hurricane season. Either way, this week, Dave is out of office on a cruise. So I’m stepping in to steer the good ol’ S.S. Weekly Report. If we haven’t met, I’m Sarah Bourgeois, part-time copywriter here at Madison+Main. (If you enjoy this edition of the Weekly, please tell Dave to hire me full-time before my rent goes up. Thanks! <3)
While Dave is cruisin’ the high seas, the Madison+Main-iacs are hard at work. Hoisting the sails, running the rigging, and of course brandin’ – as per my recent branding blog, where you can learn some of the processes we use internally to help our clients craft a strong business identity. And of course, marketin’ and advertisin’ and public relatin’. From strategic marketing plans to creative concepting to production, we’re sailing through it all. Especially the young folks.
While there’s negative PR out there about Gen Z in the workforce (we call those the haters), we’re proud to be a part of a company with a lot of young talent. No one speaks social media like our Gen Z copywriters Robyn Quarles and myself. With new-generation talent staying up to date on trends, Dave can cruise easy knowing that the social content produced for clients is timely, eye-catching, and emoji’d up by the internet pros.
The insights from young professionals in the ad world are truly irreplaceable. Understanding social media’s life cycle and nuances is an easy feat for a generation raised in the era of the Meme. You can read more about how you can make social media trends work for you in Robyn’s recent blog, while we continue to make waves with bold client projects.
Just a few honorable mentions – we recently “sleighed” our client gift for the holidays, while also creating video and radio spots, google and social ads, behind-the-scenes videos, and more for our slew of clientele across diverse industries! The reveal of our high-seas and high-stakes adventures – meaning creative work, of course – is just over the horizon! For now, sit tight, pay your interns, and enjoy our updates on the days of the week – and check out the local events list too.
MONDAY:
DOING GOOD DELICIOUSLY
Giving back is easy, when you go Cheesy! This upcoming Monday, October 28, you can do good AND eat good when you visit the Texas Inn. From 8 a.m. to midnight, twenty percent of all food and drink sales and fifty percent of all merchandise sales will benefit CARITAS. Their work in the community is incredible, offering one of the nation’s most comprehensive programs to help folks get back on their feet and reenter the workforce. So come on out and see us on Monday!

TUESDAY:
FORT MONROE’S RAMPANT READERS
Save the date! Next Saturday, November 2nd from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. or 1 p.m.-2 p.m., our clients and friends at Fort Monroe are hosting Rampant Readers, a children’s book club partnership between Fort Monroe Authority and the Hampton Public Library. This free program for elementary school-aged children is celebrating Native American Heritage Month by reading “Remember” written by US Poet Laureate Joy Harjo and illustrated by Michaela Goade, to reflect on the wonder of the world around us, and our place in it. For those who stick around after, there’s a chance to create a woven bowl craft! If you’re local, take this chance to get out and enjoy a historic treasure and a neat hands-on activity.

WEDNESDAY:
TAKING TESTIMONY
Over the past few weeks, we’ve had the privilege of sitting down with some incredible individuals who took time out of their days to talk about the personal and heartbreaking experiences they’ve had with drunk drivers. Some lost family and friends, while others were witnesses, or themselves injured or impacted by a drunk driver – highlighting the widespread effects of the choice to drive under the influence. These testimonies will help us add to our ongoing campaign with the Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP) and the DMV, where we’re working to combat drunk driving and help emphasize the importance of planning a safe and sober ride.
THURSDAY:
RELAUNCHING ATLAS 42
We are thrilled to announce that we are back in action with Atlas42! We have launched a new initiative with this local venue space to help revamp their marketing and branding with a fresh new spin. No matter what – it’ll be eventful, which is right up their alley. Stay tuned!

FRIDAY:
DEA TAKE BACK DAY
Time to clean out your medicine cabinet! In partnership with our current One Pill Can Kill campaign, we’re highlighting an important event – Monday, October 28 is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, a time folks can safely dispose of unneeded medications. By doing this, folks can prevent medication misuse and opioid addiction from even starting. Let’s work together to make our homes and communities safer! Plan to participate on Monday if you have unused meds at home – dropoff locations can be found here!
