There’s Nothing That More Sales Can’t Fix

Every day brings a new set of challenges. That day is usually called Monday.
Whether it’s a personal hurdle or a family issue, it can affect you and your ability to do your job. We all try to keep our personal and professional lives separated, but oftentimes you just can’t “leave it at the door” before you walk into work. For many of us, it’s impossible to leave the challenges at home because the door to our office is actually a home office. A whopping 32.5 million people will be working from home in 2025, and that has created an entirely new set of challenges for remote workers and the businesses they work for.
As a business owner, you face challenges every day. Cashflow. Competition. Company culture. Customer acquisition. Higher costs. Recruitment. Retention. Operations. Time management. Et cetera…Sometimes it can be overwhelming. Trust me. I know. I own several different companies and each one has at least one new challenge every day..
Last week I was deep into my own “woe is me” lament on a couple of business issues I was facing. A friend of mine and fellow business owner took me out to Penny Lane Pub for a (few) pints. He listened carefully with empathy and he tried very, very hard not to tell me what I was doing wrong. However, he did remind me of advice I gave him almost ten years ago.
“You once told me ‘There’s nothing that more sales won’t fix’ and I never forgot it,” he said. Then he sat back and smiled.
My own words had come back to me. My face lit up like a lightbulb over a cartoon character who just yelled, “Eureka!” It was almost like I heard these words for the first time.
He was right, and not to brag but I was right, all those years ago. There really is no business challenge that can’t be fixed by selling more. Cashflow solves itself when there’s more money coming in. More sales give you money to fight competition, improve culture, recruit talent, retain folks, improve operations. Heck, if time management is an issue, you can hire someone to help with your calendar if sales improve. (Btw, I highly recommend Red Pen Virtual Assistants.)
Regardless of the business you’re in or the challenges that business faces, a business owner must keep his/her eyes on the prize. And there’s only one reason a business fails – it didn’t make enough sales. You can quote me on that.
