Time To Get Social
Two weeks ago, Madison+Main announced our latest achievement — making the Inc. 5000 list as one of the fastest-growing private companies in America. We shared the news all over social media. Posts went out on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter. The beauty of social media is that good news spreads fast. The nature of social media is simple: One of your followers shares what you have to say for their followers to read. And if their followers like it, then their followers get to hear about it, too, and so on and so on and so on. Just like the old Faberge Organics TV ad with Heather Locklear.
By now, your business should be on social media, and if it’s not, you’re really missing out. The social space is constantly evolving and more users join these platforms daily. Studies show that Facebook and Instagram have more than two billion daily active users, while LinkedIn and Twitter have more than half a billion. Want to reach younger audiences? Snapchat has 347 million daily users and upstart TikTok now has one billion users, and they’re usually younger. (Almost ⅓ of users are 10-19 years old.) That’s a lot of people waiting to hear about what your business or brand has to offer. And don’t forget — people buy stuff, namely your products or services.
The advantages to having a robust social media presence are evident:
- Build brand awareness. Sharing what your business is about and what it does is the number one reason to be on social media. These platforms offer you the opportunity to expand your business or brand’s reach to millions of customers and clients.
- Develop customer loyalty. The more your business or brand engages on social media, the more likely you are to see results.
- Create trust. If your business is liked or followed by lots of people, new prospects feel as if they can trust you as an authority. This trust leads them to associate positive experiences with your brand. Good reputations make all the difference, remember?
- Spend less and get more marketing. Social media marketing is extremely cost-effective. You can reach new customers on Facebook, for example, for pennies on the dollar compared to traditional methods. Need I say more?

MONDAY:
INN-COMING NEWS
Last week, we got the final approval from the various bureaucratic agencies in the City of Harrisonburg, and we opened our third location of the Texas Inn last weekend. We were so crowded at the soft opening on Saturday morning, that we ran out of food before the end of the day. I mentioned JMU President Alger in last week’s email, and he actually walked in and introduced himself. #GoDukes We were also featured in the Harrisonburg newspaper The News-Record and on WHSV TV.
TUESDAY:
LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION
On Tuesday, Creative Director Art Webb and Account Manager Marita Cardenas wrapped up their second day of filming our client CowanGates’ latest TV spot at their offices with the help of our friends at BES Studios. Here are a few behind-the-scenes shots from the production.
WEDNESDAY:
GET INTO THE SPIRIT
DYK: It’s Virginia Spirits Month? According to one source, there are more than 100 licensed distilleries in our state, including the best one of all – our client A. Smith Bowman Distillery. Known as the “Birthplace of American Spirits,” Virginia is also home to the World’s Best Bourbon. Trust me. I got my Ph.D. in Bourbon.
THURSDAY:
UP AND RUNNING
On Thursday, Account Manager Andrew Simpson and I met in Harrisonburg to shoot a couple of spots for the Harrisonburg Texas Inn. It’s always good to see Appeal Production’s Andy Vanhook and crew. They do an amazing job. Spots should be up and running soon. Here is a preview shot:
FRIDAY:
LABOR-LESS DAY
This morning, I called in to give John Reid, host of Richmond’s Morning News on WRVA, my weekend event update. ICYMI, the segment is here. Highlights included Butterflies Live! at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, Wicked at the Altria Theater, and an opportunity to visit the Chesterfield County Fair before it closes on Sunday.
By 5 p.m. today, all of the Madison+Main-iacs will have tucked away their computers, turned off their notifications, and swapped their blue light glasses for sunglasses as they prep for the long weekend. Our office will be closed Monday, but we’ll be back at work on Tuesday before you know it!

“You can’t tiptoe into social media. You have to jump into the pool. People have a natural fear of it. But the scary part is not being there. Your customer is already there.“ — Dave Saunders, Chief Idea Officer, Madison+Main
