Big Deal
Howdy folks!
It’s official. The Madison+Main-iacs have yet again taken over the Weekly Report after the disappearance of Dave “Almost Caught A Fish” Saunders. We promise to keep it short and sweet on this busy day. According to Facebook, Dave’s been throwing out his line in Avon, North Carolina. Yeah, we know…we asked the same thing. According to Wikipedia, Avon is a small village south of Salvo on Hatteras Island. And in his typical record-breaking fashion, Dave increased their population to a whopping 777 people — which is approximately how many customers slept outside of Best Buy last night. Hopefully, you weren’t one of those campers who spent $300 on a tent just to save $50 on a TV but if so, may God bless your heart.
Believe it or not, Black Friday isn’t a “big deal” to the majority the Madison+Main-iacs. Instead, we create a “big impact” as we stand with American Express in support of Small Business Saturday. Every time you purchase a panini from the mom-and-pop shop or buy a locally-made handbag instead of dropping $45,000 on designer fashion, you’re helping our community thrive. And trust us, it all adds up. According to last year’s Small Business Saturday Consumer Insights Survey, 104 million shoppers spent a record high of $17.8 billion. That being said, it’s clear to see that small and independent businesses depend on holiday sales. Remember, for every $1 spent at a small business, an average of $0.67 stays in the community.
Throughout this season of giving, we encourage you to spend wisely and help make a difference in your hometown. Below we’ve compiled a list of four smarter ways to donate your dollars in Richmond, Virginia. In addition to our donation list, you can click here and enter your zip code to find locally-owned small businesses near you. Go out this Saturday and chat with the small business owners yourself…it means a lot to them.
