Your Data?
I used to say things like, “In case you’ve been living under a rock and missed…” but young people don’t understand what that means. So now I say things like “ICYMI” – which stands for “in case you missed it.”
Facebook introduced a new tool last month that allows you to delete your data. Interesting. This week I performed a peculiar task — I downloaded my Facebook data.
A few highlights:
- Despite my Peter Pan outlook on life, Facebook lists my psychographic profile as Established Adult Life. #soundsboring
- Facebook downloaded every phone number of every friend in my iPhone on May 28, 2015. #scary
- I’ve shared my info with more than 100 other companies through log ins and apps. #yikes
- I am manager of 45 different Facebook pages. #worktoohard
- Facebook’s photo recognition software has been used 147 times to document my gorgeous mug. #ElGuapo
- I have one cousin who has four Facebook accounts. #LOLBrenda
Facebook’s terms of service says “you own all of the content and information you post on Facebook, and you can control how it is shared.” And while Facebook may not keep your data or sell your data, they do sell ads and your data is valuable. The company made $11.97 Billion in the first quarter of 2018.
If you’d like to access and download “your data” on Facebook, go for it. #goodluck
Monday, June 18 – Gone Fishin’
On Monday, I was on a small, deserted island off the coast of North Carolina catching big red drum while my colleagues were hard at work. I’m so sad that I missed our company-wide project management software training.
But while I was gone, the team was hard at work helping Virginia’s Office of the Attorney General and Richmond Police re-launch our highly effective Respect Richmond campaign. The integrated web, social media, OOH, and PR campaign was launched last fall in the city, and the results have been very positive — the overall violent crime rate in the city has gone down. Many local media outlets covered the story.
Tuesday, June 19 – Dance Like No One is Watching
On Tuesday, my son Jack and I packed up the Beast (a.k.a. my big Jeep) and headed back to reality. Meanwhile, our friends at Lucy Corr hosted their big June event, a Popsicle Party. King of Pops was there handing out delicious popsicles, while Bill Roberts provided some great music. Everyone was staying cool and dancing throughout the party. Even Client Services Coordinator Haleigh Lader, who has loudly and proudly proclaimed “I don’t dance,” joined in to show off her moves with some of the residents. #RunningMan #HeyMacarena
Lucy Corr‘s Popsicle Party was a big hit. Check out Haleigh and
our client Debra Marlow cutting a rug.
Wednesday, June 20 – Sometimes You Just Have To Say Bucket
As I sorted through a mountain of email, the team started delivering some goodies to our clients and media friends. To celebrate the official beginning of Summer, we sent out #BoldBrandsWin buckets of Boldweiser Beer, with a card that said “Sometimes You Just Have To Say Bucket.”
RBC Wealth Management‘s super silly social media policy prevented
me from posting a pic of my friend Andy Foldenauer,
new Prez of the Magnificent Midlothian Rotary Club.
Rain forced us to bring the party indoors Wednesday night, but that didn’t dampen our fun at the Magnificent Midlothian Rotary Club’s annual installation banquet, where I celebrated handing over the gavel to 2018-2019 President Andy Foldenauer. It was whirlwind of a year at the helm of RVA’s biggest and best Rotary Club, and I wish Andy lot’s of luck in the coming year. He’s going to need it.
Thursday, June 21 – It Was “Worth” It
On Thursday, I entered an empty office and thought I’d missed the memo on some random holiday. I was right. It was National Selfie Day and everyone had the day off. Just kidding. Half of the staff took a field trip to the Worth Higgins & Associates printing plant for a professional development workshop that focussed on the manufacturing side of the printing process, called WorthU. The gang took a selfie and reported back it was definitely Worth it.
The Madison+Main-iacs learned a little about the
printing process at Worth Higgins & Associates
