By Graphic Design Intern Kaity Byrum
Interning at Madison+Main has been such a great opportunity. I have learned so much about designing at a marketing agency, and I’ve also had a kick ass time. I am thankful for the opportunity to learn from Geoff, Colleen and all of the other Main-iacs. Everyone has made me feel so welcome and a part of the team. That said, here are my three biggest takeaways so far:
1. Don’t settle on your first draft – You might have a good idea (or think that you do), but it most likely won’t be perfect on your first try. The details are so important. Edit and refine your idea, and then do it again, and again.
2. Share your ideas – It was intimidating at first to speak up in meetings and concepting sessions, but even as a “lowly intern” I realized that my ideas are important. It’s so cool to see everyone piggyback off of each other’s ideas to create something that is golden.
3. Enjoy what you’re doing and have fun – One of my favorite things about this internship has been the atmosphere here at Madison+Main. I’ve learned that it’s important to work hard and do great work for the client, but it makes it much easier to do a good job when you enjoying yourself and your coworkers.
