Netflix and Chili
The air smells of pumpkin spice lattes and I can’t scroll through my Facebook without seeing pictures of kids in a pumpkin patch. This can only mean one thing: Fall is upon us. While some people crave a bowl of soup, I find myself craving a delicious bowl of chili and a cold mug of beer. Good thing I can get my fix next week right here at Madison+Main headquarters…
Consider this your official invitation to the Madison+Main 9th Annual Chili Cook Off! Nothing would warm my heart more than eating chili, drinking local beer and chatting will all of my loyal Weekly Report readers. As an added bonus, you could even rub elbows with some awesome local brewers who have so kindly volunteered to join us as our Cele-Beer-ty judges; Brad Cooper from Steambell, Ian Niblock from Bold Rock Cidery and Aaron Lile from Stone Brewing will be joining us on Wednesday night to teach us a thing or two about their beer and try chilis made by some of our awesome clients. If you want to join us, head to the Facebook page or email Haleigh at haleighl@madisonmain.com. Can’t wait to see you all there!
Monday, Oct. 8 – Like a Wrecking Ball
We are excited to announce that we have added two new Main-iacs to our crew! Derek Fair has joined our squad as a Junior Copywriter. A true Madison+Main success story, Derek interned with us in 2015 and earned the nickname “Fair Bear” during his time here which we certainly plan on continuing. #SorryNotSorry
Allison Throckmorton has joined our rockstar Accounts team as an Account Executive, and we’ve got a good feeling that she’s going to fit right in. Want to congratulate them on their new job at the best Ad Agency in RVA? Send them an email!
Because we here at Madison+Main like to keep everyone on their toes, we also started some renovations on our building on Monday. At 7:30 in the morning the crew from Hudson Contracting could be heard ripping up carpet and tearing down walls on the third floor. While I may need to wear a hard hat to get into my office now, I couldn’t be more excited to get this project underway.
Tuesday, Oct. 9 – Master Cider Taster
On Tuesday, VP of Brand Strategy Kara Forbis and I took our turn heading out to Nellysford to visit Bold Rock Hard Cider. After that tasting, I can officially say that I consider myself a cider guy. I love visiting our clients and seeing the great work that they do, which is easy to do with the awesome group of clients that we represent. Just take a look at the great work that ArtOn Products has done for both Madison+Main and the Texas Inn:
Wednesday, Oct. 10 – Birthday Week
It seems that our office is full of Libras because we celebrated plenty of birthdays. Graphic Designer Erin Rebmann, Communications Manager Kent Brockwell and even one of our mini Main-iacs Donovan all have birthdays this week. Libras are defined by their diplomatic nature, gracious attitude and team-mindedness. I would say Erin and Kent have these skills down pat, which is part of what makes them such great Main-aics.
Thursday, Oct. 11 – Hurricane Michael… Myers
Well, it’s Halloween season and we officially have a Hurricane named Michael. Coincidence? I think not. Universal Pictures should have jumped all over this. Anyhow, before Richmond got too spooky, I took the newest Madison+Main-iacs, Derek and Allison out to lunch at Sam’s Hot Dog Stand - a tradition of mine when new folks come on board. We bonded over chili-drenched franks and talked about first-week successes, plans for the future, and…handguns. It’s safe to say we have our sights on the right things.
Friday, Oct. 12 – It’s Been a Ruff Week
Communication Manager Kent Brockwell and Account Executive Haleigh Lader were all around town today helping to spread the word about Marketplace Events’ Richmond Home Show with Laurie March a.k.a. The House Counselor of HGTV and DIY Network. Thanks to WRIC ABC8, WTVR CBS6, and our friends at Radio One for the awesome on-air opportunities!
Today we adopted the idea that our office is much better with a dog. Luckily, we took advantage of a program that the good folks at Richmond Animal Care & Control started called #CasualFriday, which allows you to foster a dog in your office for the day. We spent 7 hours alongside the ever-so-chill, Clementine – an American Pit Bull Terrier mix, whose head is bigger than her bark. Actually, that’s a lie. She didn’t bark once, but instead cuddled up next to Creative Director Art Webb, who later got a text from his daughter, Carmella, reading, “Can we?!” If you are interested in adopting, Clementine is the dog for you. Contact Office Manager Katie Rossberg with any inquiries, or head over to RACC to meet her!
